Rooted in Afropean culture, mari.ama is an artist, singer songwriter , poet, curator & moderator whose work reflects a journey across continents and traditions. With familial and cultural ties spanning Germany, France, Norway, Czech Republic, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, she embraces a diverse sonic palette that blends folk, soul, pop, and beats with West African rhythms and instrumentation.
A Fulani nomad by heritage, mari.ama tells stories of movement, identity, and belonging.
Her work extends beyond music, as she actively shapes and advocates for a more accessible and inclusive cultural landscape.
In 2021, she co-founded the fem*ergy collective, a Berlin-based collective dedicated to fostering community and collaborations based on solidarity among femme artists. This initiative, alongside her venture the Heart.Work —providing counseling, and structural support for emerging creatives —highlights her commitment to artistic empowerment.
Since 2022 she serves as a speaker on the advisory board of the Pop Board NRW .
mari.ama also works as a presenter and moderator, facilitating dialogues on social, cultural, and societal issues. Her engagements range from contributions to WDRforyou to hosting discussions at events such as the Intercultural Cologne conference, Bucht der Träumer Festival, Future of Festivals, and the African Futures Conference on Climate Justice. She has also shared her insights as a speaker at the Autumn Meeting of German Media Women and the c/o pop music convention.
