Germany , Sierra Leone , Guinea, France , Czech Republic , Norway: Mariama’s origins are like a passport full of visas to travel the world. Just name them all and you’re already halfway there. Now, with one foot in Paris and a first solo album released in 2012 (The Easy Way Out, Wagram/Cinq7) , Mariama returns to a more intimate setting.
In the tradition of singer-songwriters who only make use of their voice, their words and their instrument to touch other souls and trigger more emotions than an orchestra that plays with all his might, she gives us Moments Like These, an EP that foreshadows where her second album might take us.
Accompanied by Abdoulaye Kouyaté , whose father was the musical director of Miriam Makeba’s band in Guinea, the Moments Like These EP was recorded in Marseille, during 5 days in August 2014.
With a production voluntarily stripped, raw and fragile at the same time , none of the titles hide behind a wall of arrangements. Nothing separates the listener from the essence and emotion of each song .
Uncomplicated and very direct even the seemingly imperfect only participates in the authenticity of an EP where grace and sensitivity suspend time. Melancholic moments , moments that we forget too soon, moments of love. Moments like these…
